Oakland Train Tracks

The train tracks come into town
Behind where the tire factory came down
They pass under the highway beside the high school
Where the period bells still sound

And walking home on a summer morning
After sleeping out all night
Three friends stumbling along
Trying to figure out their lives
Hoping these train tracks steer them right

The train tracks cross over main street
At the one railroad crossing in town
Where back in the day the mail drop depot
was the one meeting spot around

Now everyone hangs out at the Wigwam
for their news and their morning joe
hoping the crossings dont come down
When they’re rushing out of there to go
Cause those freight trains can be so damn slow!

The train tracks cross on the trestle
Over the river on the way out of town
Keep your eye on each tie if you're walking across
But be sure not to ever look down

Remember when that kid jumped off
when he was swimming here that July
He never came up I swear that thought
Will never leave me till I die
You know those train tracks touched all our lives
